Searching for Articles

What are articles?

Research articles are how scientists, health researchers, nurses and communicate to one another about their discoveries. Often the results of these experiments create new drugs or detail new procedures.

Why are they important?

New medicines or procedures change how patients get treated by health professionals. You want to be aware of these changes so you can do your job better.

How do you find them?

In order to find articles that will be useful in your research assignment you need to have a precise topic selected. Choose something you are interested in or already know something about. When you narrow your topic you will get fewer articles and that will help you select the more important articles to you.

Nursing Article Databases

Nursing and medical research is reported in scientific journals. Most of these journals use a peer review process to evaluate articles before they are published.   The articles are reviewed by one or more experts in the field.   Reviewers can accept or reject the article for publication. If the article is rejected, the authors have a chance to make corrections and resubmit the revised article for review again. Until the article is accepted by the reviewers, it will not be published.  The dates of  the review process are printed on the first page of many recently published articles.
